Another fantastic book from Kerrigan Byrne! I loved the characters, the scenery, the conflict - it made for a thrilling and engrossing tale. I began reading it at the beginning of a five-hour plane ride and was finished before the wheels touched the ground.
Mena St. Vincent was committed to an insane asylum by her abusive husband, and when she finally escapes, aided by some friends, she must go into hiding. Still recovering from her injuries, she flees to Scotland and becomes a governess to Liam Mackenzie's two teenage children. Liam, known as the Demon Highlander, feels protective towards Mena as soon as he meets her, but he worries that his own troubled past prevents any sort of relationship with such a woman. When they fall in love, and Mena must reveal her secret, their love is tested and Mena must confront her greatest fear
I loved both Liam and Mena. Liam had a gentle nature but his childhood affected his temper to where he becomes angry easily. Mena brought out the best and the worst of him, and it was pleasing to see him grow as a person as his love for her grew. Mena was, obviously, a tortured heroine, but she had an inner strength that was just beautiful. Sometimes she let Liam intimidate her, but she often stood up to him in magnificent ways. Her strength grew as she got to know a different sort of man than she was used to. Liam showed her that a man could be gentle, humble, and loving.
I have to say this is my favorite Kerrigan Byrne book thus far! It kept me on the edge of my seat, and I enjoyed every bit of it. I typically highlight my favorite scenes/lines I'm a book as I go (Kindle only, no highlighting precious paperbacks), and pretty much the whole book was highlighted by the end. I can't wait for her next book!
