Book Review: Blaze by Donna Grant

Amazon | Barnes and Noble | Kobo

This was my first book in the Dark Kings series, and I have to say I was absolutely blown away by the worldbuilding! I was also impressed that I was able to follow along with the story, despite the fact that I missed the first *TEN* books in the series. That shows the level of attention to detail that Donna Grant has put into her books, which is gratifying to someone who doesn't always want to start with the first book just so they can read the fourth or seventh book in a series. Devon Abrams is the key. She is a loyal employee at Kyvor, and Anson knows that she can help him find out who was responsible for the kidnapping and torture of two wives of his fellow Dragon Kings, Kinsey and Esther. When Anson reveals to Devon the true nature of the company she works for, she decides to assist them in bringing Kyvor down. However, the mission is dangerous, and when something goes wrong and Anson is forced to reveal his true Dragon form, Devon must decide if she can trust her instincts and the man who loves her. Devon was a spitfire - I loved her tenacity and the pleasant dichotomy of her vulnerability and strength in the face of danger. She understood the importance of Anson's mission, and she risked her life to help him. I was behind her from the very beginning, and I felt a uniquely strong connection to her that usually takes many chapters to develop. The author did an amazing job making her relatable and genuine. Anson was an alpha male, given that he was a Dragon King, but he didn't let that turn him into an obnoxious chauvinist, as so many alpha heroes become. He recognized Devon's strength, and while he wanted to keep her safe, he understood when she put herself in danger to protect him. Their love felt so real, it leapt off the pages! I also got to know several other stories as well, from previous books, as the point-of-view focused on a number of different relationships and characters within the Dragon Kings' world. For instance, I am really interested in Rhi, a Light Fae, who was once the mate of the King of Kings. She is a strong character and one I am eager to learn more about! Excellent book by Donna Grant! First one I have read by her, and I can already tell she is going to be a must-read for me going forward. Eager to read the previous books, as well as whichever book will be next in the series. **I received a free copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.**
