With today being Christmas Eve, I wanted to do a book review for a wonderful Christian Romance novel being released on January 3rd (my birthday!). I hope you enjoy it. Merry Christmas everyone!
What a beautifully written story! It had so many interesting elements to it, I was enthralled from the beginning. I was intrigued by the historical setting - the birth of New Orleans, the Native American involvement in wars, and the love between a military officer and a convict exiled to a wild and rugged new land. The sorrow, love, and joy wrapped in this book was just...magic.
Julianne Chevalier is a murderer, at least according to France, and when she is given the chance to start over in America, she grabs hold of it with courage. However, she soon finds out there are conditions to her freedom. She must marry, she must repopulate the new land with many French babies, and she must fight to build a world in a land that is hostile towards her. The men in her life bring heartbreak, but with the grace of God and faith in His enduring love, she forges a new path all her own.
I loved Julianne! Her strength, love, and courage was so inspiring. I can't speak of her losses without making this full of spoilers, but know that you will cry when she cries. You will laugh when she laughs. You will mourn when she mourns. Jocelyn Green is a very talented writer. Most books with this many elements become tedious, and I lose interest quickly. With this book, that never happened. I look forward to reading more books by this author!
