A royal wedding. A meddlesome mother. An unexpected union.
A European getaway during the Christmas holiday is exactly what veterinarian Katrina “Kat” Parsons needs. She can’t wait to be a bridesmaid in her childhood friend’s royal wedding, but she hopes to steer clear of the bride’s arrogant older brother.
Crown Prince Guillaume wants his younger sister’s wedding day to be perfect, but he’s suspicious of Kat. He and his mother on are on high alert, afraid Kat is not just there for the wedding, but also to find a prince of her own.
But when Kat’s kindness and generosity prove them wrong, the prince realizes there’s more to her than he ever imagined. Can he trust his heart or will he lose the one woman he can’t live without?
I enjoyed this book a great deal - mostly for the heroine, but in the end, for the hero as well. It's very realistic while at the same time putting a fairytale spin on what would normally be just another Christmas wedding tale. I loved the royal aspect, because the heroine is American with zero uses for the smug Prince who sees her as beneath him. It is nice to see arrogance knocked down a peg or two. Katrina Parsons has been best friends with Sophie von Strausser ever since they attended the same summer camp as young teens, with Sophie's princess status kept hidden initially. Despite their class differences, they remain close into adulthood, so when Sophie is getting married, Kat comes without hesitation. To the castle, complete with an evil Queen and an arrogant Prince, who just happens to be Sophie's brother, Gill. Gill doesn't trust Kat, thinking she's just out to snag a prince for herself. But as they grow closer, he soon realizes that there is much more to this American than he first thought. With a royal wedding upon them, Kat and Gill find themselves swept up in a romance that could threaten all they hold dear. I loved Kat from the start! She's spunky, confident, and not afraid to speak her mind. Gill, on the other hand, is a jerk throughout most of the book. It takes about 3/4 of the way through for me to warm up to him, and even then, his lack of courage to stand up against his tyrannical mother stands in stark contrast to Kat's unwavering loyalty to her friend in the face of such hostility from Sophie's royal family. I do eventually like him, but for a prince, he is not very heroic. I think Kat could have done better, but at least Gill redeems himself in the end and proves worthy of her love. There are two books prior to this one, and I will be checking those out soon. I loved the secondary characters, and their stories sound very interesting. The writing style by this author is compelling and draws you in. I am anxious to read more!
