Book Tour: The Dream Protocol by Adara Flynn Quick

This book tour post is long overdue, as I read this several months ago (via free copy provided by Xpresso Book Tours) in preparation for this book tour, and I am so excited to be able to share my review with you today! The fun part for me is that I not only get to peak your interest with a review of this great book, but there is also a fun giveaway at the end. Make sure to read to the end to enter!

My first thought when I finished this book: I need more! There was so much detailed information and interesting characters packed into such a small package, it makes me eager to read the next book in the series as soon as possible. It is one of the most unique stories I have read in a long time, and it captured my attention from the very first page.

15-year-old friends Deidre Callaghan and Flynn Brennan live underground, where people live and work entirely for the ability to dream. Once a citizen of this world turns 16, they get an implant that allows them to upload dreams in exchange for credits (their currency). The downside is that they can no longer sleep without these dreams. They become entirely dependent on their implant. In order to keep their world beautiful, they eliminate the "ruined" population - that is code for anyone who looks old and automatically includes everyone once they reach the age of 35. Flynn has an illness that makes him age faster than the rest of his peers, so he tries to hide his appearance in order to remain alive. When his secret is revealed, Deidre must break all of the rules to save her friend.

Deidre and Flynn were wonderful to meet and get to know. Although most of the book was spent more on explaining the world to the reader, I felt the author did a great job of describing the characters' thoughts and actions in detail and made them genuine. We get to read from both of their points-of-views, and it created a very clear image of their relationship. They're young, so there's not much romance. However, you see the budding love between the two, and I hope that continues to grow in future books.

The world-building and character development was fantastic! Given the length of this book, I was not expecting so much depth of detail. It was a lovely surprise. I eagerly await this author's next book!
