Book Review: Highland Temptation by Jennifer Haymore

Amazon | Barnes and Noble | Kobo

This is the fourth book in Jennifer Haymore's Highland Knights series, and it did not disappoint. If you haven't read the other books, you can still enjoy the story. If you're familiar with the series, you'll be excited to see old characters appear periodically throughout the book. There was romance, adventure, and battle scenes - a little bit of everything to satisfy a variety of readers. Emilia Featherstone has run away from her abusive and treasonous father, to the only safe place she knows - the home of the Highland Knights, and to Colin Stirling, a Highland Knight she knows and trusts. Colin is battling nightmares and flashbacks (what today would be called PTSD), and he is ashamed to let Emilia see that side of him. However, in order to protect her, they must disappear for a while, alone, in close quarters that will shed light on things neither wants out in the open. They will need to learn to trust and heal each other, and along the way, maybe to love each other as well. Both Emilia and Colin were likeable characters who captured my heart from the start! Both have wounds, mentally and physically, and they have to work so hard to become whole again. Their love for each other is swift, which may come across as insta-love, but it is strong and admirable. They support each other, never giving up even when they each feel unworthy of the other. Emilia's father was a nasty piece of work, and Jennifer Haymore did a wonderful job developing his character to be a believable villain. He was clearly crazy, but not so much that you can't imagine that sort of thing happening in real life. It's very sobering and a quality addition to the story. If you like brave highlanders, daring escapes, and endearing romance, you will love this book! I look forward to reading more of this author's books in the future. **I received a free copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.**
