Book Review: Only Her by Sandra Owens

Amazon | Barnes and Noble

This is the last in a series, and I have never read any of the other books. My loss! The final book was excellent, and I need to get my hands on the earlier books now. It had a strong military theme (duh!) and another personal favorite - crime-solving mystery. Kept me in suspense the whole way through.

Riley Austin is a veterinarian, living alone with her three adorable cats, and she is intrigued when she notices her neighbor next door. He has some weird-looking dogs, plays beautiful music on the guitar, and has a nice body. What's not to like? But when neighborhood pets are being poisoned, and Riley appears to be the target of the crimes, her hot new neighbor becomes her protector. Cody Roberts is a soldier in a special black ops unit, and he's trying to recover from increasingly dangerous flashbacks from his time in the war. He finds in Riley a woman who makes him want to get better, and he'll do anything to make sure she's safe - even from him.

I loved the relationship between Riley and Cody! It was so genuine, not too fast or too slow. They really worked through each other's problems, and they supported each other when they needed a shoulder to lean on. I also enjoyed their pets! I'm a pet lover, so whenever pets are involved in a story, my heart melts. Riley has three cats - Arthur, Merlin, and Pelli. Cody has three dogs - Pretty Girl (ugly doggie, to be honest), Sally (a boy), and Layla (who went MIA while Cody was serving). Their characters added much-needed comic relief to sad moments in the story.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves military heroes, spunky heroines, and entertaining pet companions. You'll read to the end with a smile on your face!
